Executive summary
The eSport Bowl 2019 exposes and engages K-12 students, their families, educators, and the gaming and cosplay communities in and around metro-Atlanta to the entry points into and pathways through the eSports ecosystem. The eSports Bowl 2019 is the first state eSports event of its kind in the country and has become the preferred event for K-12 audiences. Our objective is simply to expose K-12 students to the entry points of careers in eSports & uncover and reveal for them the pathways necessary to become eSports professionals.
eSports Bowl has awarded over $10,000 in scholarships to high school students through our team tournament, garnered over a million press impressions, and partnered with brands such as STEM WARS, We PLAY eLeague, PCX GO!, Plantronics, Microsoft, DreamHack, xSplit, iHeart Media, Radio One, Hi-Rez Studios, Miss Jessies, Upyri, Infirmary Gaming, and Project MQ.
In 2019, we will continue our focus on exposing and preparing K-12 students to engage as future professionals the eSports ecosystem and to award scholarships to provide opportunities for K-12 students to continue their education.

What is eSports?
eSports encompases many faces of the video game industry including:
- competitive play (Gaming, Robotics, & Drones)
- shout casting/streaming
- hardware and software development (technology innovation)
- social media marketing
- journalism
- law
- etc.
eSports exposes future generations to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), as a medium for learning, entertainment, and future careers. For example, designing a video game involves systems thinking, creative problem solving, collaboration, communication, iterative design and computational thinking - all critical skills for pursuing successful 21st century STEM careers.
Growth of eSports
Why should you engage in eSports?
Globally, eSports is an industry generating over $613 million annually. In 2017, revenues reached over $1 billion, and 2020 revenues are projected to reach over $3 billion.
In the U.S., over 205 million people watch or play eSports. 75% of eSports enthusiasts (those who watch or play) are millenials, ages 18 - 34, and 30% of those enthusiasts are women. 53% have a full-time job, earning an average of $75,000.00 annually. eSports tournaments have more viewers and attendees than major american sporting events including the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, and World Series. eSports has also entered mainstrem media with broadcasts on networks such as CW, ESPN, TBS and Yahoo.
As such, the eSports industry is an dynamic, viable, lucrative, interactive, and entertaining industry.

Audience
Our attendees are K-12 students attending elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the metro-Atlanta area, particularly DeKalb, Gwinnett and Fulton County Schools as well as Atlanta Public Schools (APS). Fourty percent are female.
Our attendees spend approximately 3-8 hours a day consuming video games and other video game related media. They are always connected to technology and are trendsetters when it comes to technology and internet trends.
This group is highly active in social media and are known to be early adopters of new social media platforms. However Twitter, Instagram, and Discord are their primary social media platforms.
While this segment is known for using each social media platform for different purposes, what they have in common is that this segment enjoys visual content with meme's, gifs and videos being a favorite for this group.

Pharaoh’s Conclave (PCX) is the connector of the eSports ecosystem, from a macro to a micro perspective. Involved in all levels of the industry, we possess the expertise, network and passion to connect, inform, and engage the community in this vast and unchartered area. As an Associate member of the Georgia Game Developers Association, we are the trusted advisors that have relationships within the eSports community that help to:
- Connect the community to the eSports ecosystem by identifying entry points into the industry;
- Educate and Endorse by delivering insights through tips, trends and instruction to inform the community on the necessary steps it takes to move from amateur to professional within the eSports industry; and
- Inspire and Engage the community to navigate this chaotic industry by creating visibility and a pathway from amateur to professional in all areas of eSports.
PCX GO! is the Non-Profit arm of Pharaoh's Conclave (PCX) that builds on PCX’s mission of connecting the eSports ecosystem through capacity building around eSports, providing the ecosystem with the infrastructure needed to support all key stakeholders in building skills and capabilities that apply to the eSports industry to:
- Inform – Identifying entry points into the industry
- Instruct – Explaining the necessary steps it takes to move from amateur to pro within the eSports industry through skill and capability development
- Educate – Providing opportunities to apply instruction in real-world contexts to promote learning
The co-Founders of PCX & PCX GO!
- Erich P. Thomas - Erich is committed to mentoring and teaching young people as they pursue their dreams. Over the last 15 years, Erich has taught middle and high school math, science, and history, and has served as a college readiness coach for students across the country. After leaving the classroom, Erich became the Executive Director of The Social Change Youth Foundation, which teaches underserved youth in Metro Atlanta to recognize and prepare for educational and professional opportunities. Most recently, Erich co-founded Pharaoh's Conclave (PCX), which connects K-12 and collegiate students nationwide to the eSports, video gaming, and digital entertainment industries. A Native of Atlanta, GA Erich is a graduate of Tuskegee University, with a B.S. in Construction Science Management with a concentration in Civil Engineering. He an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, INC. and has a certification in Micro Entrepreneurship from the Bronner Brothers Business Institute. As a licensed Youth Minister, Erich is working on a MA in Divinity Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center.
- Jakita O. Thomas - Jakita O. Thomas, Ph.D. is a native of Decatur, GA. As a graduate of Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Thomas went on to graduate cum laude in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer & Information Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2006, Dr. Thomas was conferred a Ph.D. in Computer Science with a specialization in the Learning Sciences and Technology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Thomas is currently an Associate Professor of Computer Science & Software Engineering at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. Dr. Thomas’s research interests include supporting the development of computational algorithmic thinking, Intersectional Computing, promoting access to healthcare information and services for under-served populations, reasoning using expert cases, complex cognitive skills learning, and computer-supported collaborative learning. Dr. Thomas is an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., International Society of the Learning Sciences, Association of Computing Machinery, American Educational Research Association, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Upsilon Pi Epsilon (the Honor Society for the Computing and Information Sciences), and a life member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.
We PLAY eLeague (WPeL) is an eSports league that offers the most diverse and inclusive competitive experience in the industry. WPeL creates a safe space and opportunity for gamers all ages, genders, ethnicity, and beliefs, to compete, build their skills, and win championships.
